Bold are thrilled to announce our brand new devising award...

BOLD are so excited to announce BOLD MAKERS. A scheme designed for emerging theatre companies & practitioners to develop an already existing idea to take to the next stage in our building in Elephant & Castle.

BOLD MAKERS is designed as a research & development week for theatre makers to develop their devised show, providing them with tools and resources that may not be accessible to them through other means.

The week long residency will happen from 6TH MARCH 2023 - 11TH MARCH 2023. (So check your diaries before applying! As these dates are fixed!)

BOLD will choose 3 different companies/practitioners to be the recipient of this award, each working with a different mentor in their given specialised field. We would love to hear from a wide range of devising companies, physical theatre groups, multimedia groups and more…

Each of the three winning companies will receive:

  • £1000 for each company
  • 1 week of rehearsal space with potential for a sharing
  • Each group will get an allotted time with a videographer to film a short extract / trailer
  • Sessions with a mentor who specialises in the relevant field either before or during the week
  • Prior to the residency week, there will be the opportunity to join a Disability Equality training workshop
  • All selected companies (at least one representative) and practitioners will be expected to attend a workshop on embedding access (audio description in this case) creatively into a project. (We will negotiate scheduling of this).

We are so thrilled to have three incredible mentors whose work spans across the alternative British theatre scene...

NIGEL & LOUISE
RAY YOUNG
FIGS IN WIGS

Each of the winning companies will work with one of these incredible companies / artists to help in the creation of their own work.

Who is this scheme for?

In short, devisers. Whether you’re a solo artist working experimentally or a physical theatre company of ten, we want to hear from you!

BOLD is actively working towards expanding representation in the arts and we especially encourage applications from those who identify as Deaf and Disabled, those from the Global Majority and/or working class artists. We are committed to choosing one company with Deaf or disabled artists at the heart of making.

Being local to Southwark, we would also love to hear from artists who live/study/work in Southwark. We are committed to choosing one company who is either based in Southwark or is committed to making a meaningful contribution to Southwark residents.

Our space is not a traditional theatre, so as well as accepting applications from companies who may produce work for studios or the stage, we are seeking proposals from site based / site specific & immersive companies looking to develop the form.

For artists with access needs. We have a certain amount of money to support access and will discuss with you how we can best use this to support your needs.
