BOLD Elephant exists as an inspiring home for emerging theatre makers & writers to come together & thrive in the heart of London.

We have transformed a 1950s office block, originally a brewery and more recently a recruitment and employment agency, into BOLD Elephant, a daring, playful and exuberant experiment for site-specific, immersive, devised theatre making & new writing from the future voices of our generation.

BOLD is a collaborative space. 100% of our profits go into the schemes we run, supporting small independent companies and freelance theatre makers to have space to create. Because theatre is for all.

We are interested in a more equitable theatre landscape.

BOLD Elephant exists in 3 main strands

A performance space

A rehearsal space

A working space for freelance artists

The Legacy of Sarah Davey Hull

BOLD Elephant emerged from the bold & saucy theatre company, created by Sarah Davey Hull (1965 – 2022). Sarah was a renowned theatre director and head of the MA contemporary acting at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, who founded BOLD Elephant in spring 2020. Sarah tragically passed away in 2022 but her legacy lives on in this building and the community she created in theatre over the last 25 years.

This was a new venture for Sarah and the beginning of a new chapter in her creative life. We were all knocked off course by the desperately sad news of Sarah’s death. However this new adventure in repurposing empty buildings into creative performing arts spaces is so vital in the ever changing landscape of the arts and so BOLD will continue the work of Sarah in the creation of new theatre.

We will be carrying on Sarah’s work – her legacy – here at BOLD, with the projects and subjects that were close to her heart. We look forward to inviting you in once more.

BOLD Associates

BOLD Elephant is collectively run by the BOLD Associates, who all work in the arts, helping to make BOLD a home for artists commercial and independent, big and small.
